Teresa Murak (b. 1949, Lublin, Poland) lives and works in Warsaw, Poland. In 1970, after completing a visual arts secondary school and one year of studies in art history at the Catholic University of Lublin, she became a student of the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where she graduated in 1976. She is one of the principal pioneers of Performance, Land and Feminist Art in Poland. With her landscape pieces, Murak utilizes natural materials, especially cress, to create in her terms “organic architecture”. The key for her is the place, body, time, life cycle energy, leading from the sensual dimension to the spiritual and religious planes. Her work is mostly exhibited in Poland, but also has exhibitions in Germany, Spain and elsewhere. AMurak’s solo exhibitions were presented at the Polish Institute in Düsseldorf (2013), Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art (1998), Galeria Bielska BWA (1998), Zachęta National Gallery of Art (1992). She is a Katarzyna Kobro Prize laureate (2005).
