The Sigma 1 Group was an artistic group formed and based in Timișoara, Romania, active between 1969-1978. Its members were, in alphabetical order: Ștefan Bertalan, Lucian Codreanu, Constantin Flondor, Ioan Gaita, Elisei Rusu and Doru Tulcan. Sigma Group evolved from and took the place of Group 111 with the new members alongside Bertalan and Flondor – former members of Group 111. The group put emphasis on teamwork and interdisciplinarity (integrate mathematics, cybernetics, bionics, psychology, and architecture in the arts), used a variety of media (paper, cardboard, wood, aluminum, glass, staples, synthetic materials, photography, film), and was influenced by Bauhaus, constructivism and new trends in art and architecture. The members organized several exhibitions in Timișoara.
